About the Event
Our Read-In is part of "Let Freedom Read," a state-wide initiative celebrating our communities' First Amendment rights to find a variety of books at our local libraries, and takes place during Banned Books Week. Celebrate your right to read by joining us to read whatever book you like - large print, audiobook, comic, children's, teen, romance, science fiction, nonfiction, even magazines. We don't judge - and that's the point. We believe that everyone who walks into the library deserves to find a book on the shelves that is interesting or helpful to them. Unfortunately, in recent years there has been a steep increase in Massachusetts and across the United States in book challenges, which seek to reduce the variety of books on our shelves, often by targeted removal of books. Have a look at this sobering list of book challenges here in Massachusetts: https://mblc.state.ma.us/mblc_blog/2023/01/20/massachusetts-and-the-nation-wrestle-with-book-bans-challenges-and-protests-in-libraries/
