Art in the Library

We have a wealth of artists in our area, and the library is the perfect place to showcase the breadth of creativity and imagination our community holds. The exhibition space at the Milne Public Library is designed for local artists to be able to share their artwork with our community.

The library encourages for community artists to exhibit their pieces monthly! Applications for 2027 will be opening soon.

Before you Apply:

We review applications for our exhibition space on an annual basis, in the fall. A reminder for the application deadline is announced each year in our newsletter, on our Facebook page, on our in-library bulletin board, and on this page.

When reviewing applications, we consider the artistic quality of the work and what value and variety it may contribute to our annual exhibit schedule.

Priority is given to first-time exhibitors, as our space is intended to foster new artists in our community and to provide them with a platform to further their creative endeavors.

We advise that you read our full Display & Exhibit Policy before applying.

Monthly at the Milne:

Through January 31st: The Nature of Spirit by Holly Edwards.

Be sure to stop by the library during the month of January and view the art exhibition, The Nature of Spirit, by local artist Holly Edwards. A faculty member in the Art History Department at Williams College, Edwards earned her bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, master’s degree from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University. Her teaching at Williams focuses on the history of Islamic art and visual culture.

In creating her own art, Edwards began rendering the beauty of the natural world and gradually sought to distill deeper patterns from that. The images on view in the Milne Library exhibit are abstract rather than realistic and reflect the artist’s cumulative contemplation of land, sea, and sky. The pictures are quite varied in palette and composition and describe a spiritual growth, one the artist hopes will resonate with the viewer.
