Massachusetts residents can obtain a library card at the Milne Public Library. However, patrons are only allowed to have one CWMARS library card (Central/Western Massachusetts Regional System – a library cooperative to which we, and many other libraries belong), so if you have a library card from another CWMARS library in Massachusetts, you can just use that. No need to obtain a second card if you’ve moved to Williamstown.
If you do not have a library card from any of the CWMARS libraries, all we will need in order to issue you a Milne Library card is proof of local residence. This can be a driver’s license, a utility bill or copy of a lease showing your local address, or a letter from your employer if you are part of an internship at one of our local farms.
Out of state residents who would like to use the Williamstown Milne Public Library, can learn about our Out of State Policy and fees by reviewing our policy document linked here.
If you still have questions about obtaining a library card, feel free to submit them via our contact form on this website, or call us at 413-458-5369. We’re happy to help!
At the July 2025 Library Board meeting, the Board voted to update the fee structure for out-of-state library cards. These adjustments come after many years without change and are intended to reflect rising costs of maintaining services, while also aligning with fees at neighboring libraries.
The new options for out-of-state library cards are:
-
$80 per household/family (including single individuals)
-
$40 for senior citizens (age 65+)
To ensure access remains flexible and equitable, we’ve also introduced a Library Card Fee Support Form. With this, patrons may:
-
Pay the full fee
-
Pay a portion of the fee
-
Contribute more than the standard fee to help others
-
Request a waiver of the fee
In other words: you can pay what works best for you!
We deeply appreciate your continued support and understanding as we pilot this approach over the coming months.
