August: American Artist Appreciation Month

The month of August is officially American Artist Appreciation Month, which we are recognizing for the first time here at the Milne. Please have a look at our display near the non-fiction area, which has just a sampling of our many art books. Others are located in the 709 and 759 areas on non-fiction, and in the Oversize section as well!

The National Endowment for the Humanities has created a Virtual Bookshelf for this month, and The National Today, which keeps track of all kinds of unique holidays, summarizes the importance of American Artist Appreciation Month as well.

Please take a look at the catalog records for some of these titles:

Another way to support American art is to visit our amazing local museums. The library has passes that you can check out for free or discounted entrance to the following museums:

Williams College Museum of Art (always free of charge)

The Smithsonian in Washington, DC has not just an incredible collection of American art but also an impressive website:

As always, please visit or contact the library for more information about American art and artists!

a helpful reminder about american artist appreciation month. i appreciate the specific call numbers for the art books and the mention of the virtual bookshelf. the museum pass information is a great local resource. it's useful to have all these ways to engage with american art gathered in one post. Such a useful roundup. Side note for the Milne team: between the Thingdom, Experience Passes, Sensory Sanctuary, Notary, Tech Help, language databases + monthly themed reading lists, your services are remarkable but spread across many pages. A "What Can I Borrow / Use Today?" sortable landing page (filter by collection type + age + interest → matched resource + reservation link) would dramatically help first-time patrons explore everything Milne offers. I help small libraries build that with a copyweb ai — Figma to working filter page in an evening. The Williamstown community is lucky to have such a comprehensive library.

Love that the Milne is highlighting AAAM — and the museum pass collection (The Clark + MASS MoCA + Norman Rockwell Museum) is honestly one of the best library perks in the Berkshires. I help with content for a small arts nonprofit in Western Mass and we've started using an nano banana ai to create month-themed display promo cards for socials (American Artist Appreciation, Black History Month, etc.) without needing a designer on staff. Pairs really well with library reading lists. Heading to the 709s section.

The glow usage in some of these modern Geometry Dash levels is actually insane for a 2D platformer.

Checking out the display near the non-fiction area sounds fun. The library has passes for The Norman Rockwell Museum and others, which is cool. Nano Banana
