This year's Blind Date with a Book has come to a close. Over 40 disguised dates were checked out and 23 ratings came back. Eight readers fell head-over-heels in love with their book dates, twelve reported that they will just be friends (or are still on the fence), and three never want to see their blind dates again! Everyone received a Chapter Two gift card, and three lucky winners got a banned book puzzle, a scratch-off book poster and a New York Times Games book!
Here are a few quotes from our romantic readers for your future dating decisions:
True Love
"We loved it! Beautiful art; thought-provoking; slightly sad. But very on point! Led to great discussion!"
"I was pretty doubtful about this date. Who shows up for a date in Williamstown wearing a cowboy hat and riding a horse?! I told myself to keep an open mind and I sure was surprised. I actually enjoyed going on this date."
"Such a creative book, weaving and connecting stones across three time periods. Culturally fascinating, plus New England familiarity."
"I loved this slim little novel-savored it like a square of dark chocolate melting slowly in my mouth. So much to enjoy - collegiate setting, infidelity both literal & psychological, very "meta" in structure. And now I know the meaning of hermeneutic charity!"
Just Friends...
"I very much enjoyed meeting this cast of characters and visiting an unfamiliar country - beautifully vivid language!"
"The themes of this book were appropriate for this month and the characters are likable, but I never got pulled into the story. Nonetheless, it was a fun read that provided some food for thought and left a smile on my face."
"I had no idea what to expect from a date that included the disposing of a body. I'm all in for a murder, maybe a dismemberment or two, but falling in love with my date just wasn't in the cards. We will remain friends though."
"Suspenseful and darkly humorous... a fun read!"
Never Again!
"Thought I would try something different than I normally read. Did not like it."
If you'd like to see what readers have read and rated in years past, stop by the library and have a look at the Blind Date with a Book notebook which has (almost) all of the rating slips from years past. It's also a great way to choose a new read in general!
