Hello from the Teen Librarian!

Hi Teens! My name is Rocio Carrera and I started as the Teen Librarian and Children's Room Assistant in November 2020.

I grew up on the West Coast in a big Mexican-American family and moved to the Northeast after I married. Three years ago, we left the Maine coast to move to the beautiful Berkshires. This is the farthest I have ever lived from the ocean!

I love books (obviously). I have a lot of favorite types of books but right at the top are cookbooks (for the pictures and the food history only...I like to eat but not cook), horror fiction, graphic novels (all ages) and non-fiction books about social justice issues. My not so secret dream is to someday write and illustrate a picture book of my own.

I am an artist! One of the best parts of living in Williamstown is the close proximity to so many different art museums. Though I am a big believer in seeking out art through books and online, being able to stand in front of a work of art is a one of a kind experience. I am also fortunate to be able to plan art programs with teens and children here at our library.

This past year, the teen room saw a complete transformation. The public use computers were moved out, allowing us to dedicate the space completely to teen services. If you haven't had a chance to stop by, come on in and I can give you a tour. I am sure it will be a pleasant surprise!

Do you want to chat about materials to add to our teen room? Have an idea for a program that we could host here? Would you be interested in helping us out as a volunteer? Please feel free to contact me at rcarrera@cwmars.org

I also run the Teen Instagram site for the library so join me on Instagram for updates and events! @milne_teens
